Didn’t have time to summarize my 2015 due to busyness (laziness) until now. Meanwhile I decided to try this new blog system, hexo. It didn’t take me too much work because of the well-written docs.

A significant year in my life has just passed. In this year my school life came to an end and I started earning a living myself.

Graduation was really not easy for me with history of a couple of failed courses. Thank goodness problems were solved one after another and eventually on September, three months later than others, I got my own diploma. Since I studied in Guangzhou, worked and lived in Shenzhen, I had to take high-speed rail each time I had things to cope with at school. According to incomplete statistics, I’ve at least taken 20 trips in between around the year. Luckily each trip takes only 30 minutes or so. In fact, it was after I got my diploma that I went back to school more frequently than before. Procedures for an undergraduate to start the very first job is really complicated and tedious in China. Hopefully with the pass of 2015, I may never need to go back anymore. 17-year school life has just ended, I’m sure I’m not gonna miss it, nor deny the possibility of returning to it. What I’m sure is I will not stop learning.

On April, I went to Shenzhen and started seeking my first job online. It didn’t take me too long even though I was inexperienced. I got an offer days after my first interview. It’s a startup company and as a Python engineer, my main job is to write web crawlers. The company welfare ain’t general but my colleagues are mostly friendly. After just one month I was asked to write some js code, CoffeeScript actually. I didn’t like javascript before but by far, it’s started to take the place in my mind that used to belong to python. Working ain’t an easy thing, but I’ll try my best. On the other hand, as I started earning myself, I’m now able to buy what I like and do what I want. It’s definitely a feeling I never had at school.

Things I’m satisfied with in the past year:

  • managed to graduate from university
  • found a job that’s not too bad
  • got my driving license
  • managed to apply for my first personal credit card
  • got my Internet accounts and passwords better managed with zoho and 1Password, much much better
  • lately started listening to iTunes podcasts
  • had fun playing iOS url schemes with workflow
  • learnt the basic pronouncing rules of Japanese
  • more attentions were paid to skin care

Things I’m not:

  • relationships with my girlfriend
  • didn’t capture the chance of purchasing Surge
  • neglected exercising

Bye, 2015! Here’s a couple of wishes of mine in 2016:

  • pick up reading
  • pick up exercising, hopefully learning swimming
  • pick up writing blogs
  • get myself more understood about the core and basics of Node.js
  • master some basic skills of editing an image with Affinity Photo
  • form the habit of keeping track of expenses using Spendee
  • get a new mechanical keyboard with red switch, should be ikbc c87 with no accidents
  • continue practicing Oral English
  • learn some new vocabulary
  • learn some more Japanese
  • rent a better house to live in
  • relationships better coped with
